Winter Wonderland? Or just cold and miserable?

I haven't done much (if any) horse stuff in the past two weeks. I've just been busy with Christmas (thank goodness that is over and done with!) and trying to deal with the dark and cold weather that we get this time of year.
I don't really like the snow, cold and ice - but I'm stuck here, so I try and make the best of it. In fact, I can deal with cold and snow without much trouble, but I really don't like ice, unless it is in my drink. :-) It makes the footing terrible for horses and humans alike, not to mention it makes driving difficult.

I've been hand-walking Dolly a bit lately, just to get us out in a safe way. I usually try and take a few pictures along the way to help Dolly with patience and standing quietly while I do something. I managed to get a few shots before my hands froze!
We are usually followed by V - a friend's horse - when we walk.  He is a young arab gelding and is always watching when there are things going on.
He followed me as far as he could in his paddock and stopped to pose when I called his name...what a handsome guy...

I'm hoping to get a short ride in this weekend, probably just in the riding ring, but it will be better than nothing!

I need to get my butt riding again too! We've had a very mild winter so far but I have been so busy prepping for Christmas. (like you said, glad that's done for another year) ;)

Nice pics, I especially like the first one.

In answer to your post title - it depends on the day! This year is just crazy with temperature fluctuations. And the late snow fall definitely made it a long, depressing fall/early winter.

Your pictures are beautiful!

Good idea to hand-walk Dolly! I think it's great for building their confidence in scary spots plus it builds their confidence and trust in you, I think. I've done this with Will and think it's helped - can't believe we didn't talk about this more with respect to Dolly (or did we?!?).

Yep, it sure looks dark, grey and cold there. After 30+ days with snow covering the ground, our snow finally began melting today. But it's being replaced by icy covered snow and mud. Yuk!

V is handsome! Have a fun ride!

I have fallen 3 times since I moved to a snowier/icier climate! Luckily just bruises but it's wild out there sometimes!
It is hard to do horse stuff at this time of the year...yesterday I gave pony rides to the kiddos on My Boy (in the snow.) I actually felt like saddling him up and riding him, but I didn't. Oh well. Maybe next time....I guess my ponies are just getting a nice winter break!
Happy new Year!
