Trying to look ahead, not back

Holy cow. What a crappy week I had last week. I'm trying not to dwell on what happened, but move forward and have a better time of things this week.

Stress just plain stinks. I'm sure everyone knows what I mean.

Rusty and I had a bad week too. We did 3 rides and he was used in a lesson on Thursday. Sounds good right? Well, we have been battling each other this week. I find it frustrating because I know alot of the problems are in my riding. I keep hoping to have made more progress by this point in my riding. Oh well....keep keeping on, right?

Rusty is also having eye problems again. It seems to flare up this time of year for some reason. He is on bute and it helps, but you can still sort of tell he isn't quite himself.

We don't need the vet out, since it is the same deal as last year. Although, I'm tempted to ask our friend some questions. I actually have a veterinary ophthalmologist in my living room right now! He is a friend of my hubby's and they are working in their bicycles together. I really don't like to bother him when he is here for a fun visit, so I'll save my questions in case things get worse and I really need his help.

Goals for this week:
  • Evaluate Rusty's eye and talk with the barn owner to see if riding is a good idea right now, or if we should give him a bit of a break until his eye clears up a bit. If she thinks it is ok to keep riding (she's a vet), then we'll keep plugging along and working on our issues!
  • Try and think positive!!!! It is so easy to dwell on the negative things and miss the good things...
What is everyone up to this week? Lots of big plans for Thanksgiving for you gals down south?

Chin up Laura- there was a massive disturbance in the Force for the past two weeks on this end. Keep on keepin' on girl, and we'll make it ;)

Hmm-- I'd bug the guy in your living room RIGHT NOW! hehehe...

Plans? Cleaning, cooking, cleaning some more, hiding from the inflow of in law family (and I use that word family loosely.... They. Bother. Me.) I need me some SONNY TIME ya know?

Kiss Rusty from me. You'll smooth it out. I know when Jack's eyes bugged him, he was pissy too, so maybe that is part of Rusty's week issues too.

Does he have chronic uveitis? Our oldest horse at the barn, Blackjack, has this and has been helped greatly by wearing a fly mask whenever he's outside - it keeps stuff out of his eyes and keeps him from poking himself.

Hope his eyes were what was making him unhappy - I expect you'll work it out - more mints!

Kate - yes, he has a low-grade chronic uveitis... He wears a fly mask all the time, but it seems that his eye flares up this time of year...

More mints are a good start!

Things usually work out in time. Maybe a vet should check him out in case he needs some medication. I wonder if this season might not produce some allergies and his eyes are irritated by them. Have a great Thanksgiving and don't stress too much.

Oh man, that sucks about Rusty's eye:-( but I guess the up side is that it's seasonal and will get better again, right?
I wouldn't be shy asking a knowledgable friend like that questions! Use and abuse him! jk

I'm sure with your BO being a vet and also having the privledge of getting to use him as a lesson horse, she doesn't mind being your first line of defense when it comes to keeping Rusty's eye condition under control.

As for the struggling...remember the old saying...the darkest hour is just before dawn. I'm sure you will come out of this difficult period just fine. These things just happen. I still run into things that make me struggle because I just can't get them to come together like I know they should. Rider's Block...LOL.

Oh bummer. I hope Rusty's eye improves and that you two are able to meet on the same level and ride in teamwork. I know that it's so frustrating, but it will get better.

We had a simple Thanksgiving with friends and hubby was able to stop in for 2 days after Thanksgiving. So I'm very thankful.

Have a great week, Laura!

Sorry about Rusty's eye and the frustrations. Lots of frustration here too; it seems to be going around. Nice that your BO is a vet.

Poor Rusty!

My friend's horse, Quaila has some sort of allergy that messes with her eyes at this time of year, every year. I sympathize.
