Being a boarder is kinda hard sometimes - you often have to drive a good distance to see your horse and because of this, you are often just there to ride. Grab the horse, groom, ride and leave. That is my typical situation.
Every time I arrive at the barn, I see something similar to the scene below: horse butts at a round bale*. Rusty is an older gentleman and is turned out with 3 old mares and a pony mare that is of an undetermined age and is also half blind. They are normally a pretty quiet group - munching on hay all day and strolling around a bit for a break.
Today, the barn owner's daughter was out doing chores and she caught these hijinks on her cell phone camera:
Rusty is in the middle of a rear in the center of the photo. The old standardbred mare on the right looks on with disgust. The pony has a look of "what? we weren't doing ANYTHING. I SWEAR!!!" In reality, the pony had been galloping circles around Rusty and he was playing with her.
Receiving this photo today, even though it is blurry, made me smile.
*sorry for the poor photo quality today. Pics were taken with cell phones and no amount of photoshop work could really make them decent.

Cute! That is EXACTLY what that pony is saying...
Lol, too cute. I know what you mean about just showing up to ride most of the time. That's why I thought you'd like to hear about Rusty from my walk the other day. For what it's worth, I'm sure he was mostly interested in Hazel and the fact he probably hasn't seen anyone along the tree line for awhile. I have to ask - why the fly mask this time of year?
RB - I did like your story!
He has uveitis - the flymask is supposed to help with blocking some uv rays or something. Not sure if it works or not though. He really doesn't need it on cloudy days and it isn't great if he has it on in the rain/snow. I had to explain to the barn owners how it might be bad if the inside of his mask filled up with snow! He wears it all winter - the glare off the snow can be hard on the eyes of horses with uveitis.
He hasn't had a flare-up in over a year, so I have my fingers crossed that he is ok for a while. We often have problems this time of year...
I think it's a pretty good picture. They do look awfully cute. Like the typical 'mare look' from the girl on the right. I often wish I had a bunch of barn/paddock cams set up so I could see what they do when I'm not there.
That pony may have been galloping circles before but you darn sure got what she was saying right!!
Love that pic. Who'da thunk that the good old Rustbuster would be the one rearing like that?! lol
Makes sense, I figured there was something going on. I find winter even harder on the eyes too! Well, at least you know they are putting it on him before am turnout!
I always hear stories from the barn owners about what my lease gets up to when I'm not around. Most of it isn't good or cute!
The word verification is "meness" and that about sums it up (phonetically, at least)!
Yupe, you've got that pony pegged right. Too funny!
LOL! Too cute!
Oh my gosh. That photo is cute and funny!
I read and article a while ago saying that cell phone cameras will one day replace point and shoot cameras as they continue to have better quality. I hope not!
