A little update

I've opened a window in blogger several times over the past few days, trying to find something to write about. I have a few updates, but none of it really warrants a post on its own, so you'll get a bulleted list of random tidbits that are floating in my brain! (and maybe a couple pictures of Rusty...)
  • I'm reallllly close to getting a transfer at work - it is something I've been working towards for a while now and it looks like it will finally happen in the next couple of months, or maybe even sooner.  I really need a change from my current position - things are slow here and I really need to be challenged a bit more or I get lazy and complacent.
  • I went to a showmanship clinic last weekend -it was kind of interesting... I might still do a post about it, but I didn't get any pictures, so it might be too boring.
  • I was all excited about starting to get Rusty fit again since the footing at the barn and on the trails was perfect.  Then it rained.  And then we had a flash freeze (-28C overnight) and everything was icy.  It is now warm again but the laneway is probably icy and wet so not so safe to work on. I'm really missing an indoor right now!
  • I was thinking of going to a Josh Lyon's clinic for a couple of days, but the barn hosting the event is really slow in getting back to me with answers to my questions. They aren't making it easy to register either - right now, they want me to drive 1 hour (each way!) to their farm just to drop off a cheque.  So, based on that, I'm not so sure I want to go now.  I'm fickle like that.  :-)
  • I haven't started taking lessons again yet. I'm debating on whether it is worth the time and money...
  • I'm obsessed with finding a used dressage saddle. I don't even like riding English that much anymore!  But I really like Rusty in black and want to see how he looks all decked out in English tack. I obviously need to get out more or something.
  •  We went for a walk dow the driveway when the snow was still nice. I had the dogs with me and they were happy to be out.  Every time I would ask Rusty to halt, he would look back longingly at the barn and his round bale, hoping I would get the hint.
After the walk, I turned Rusty out in the round pen without his blanket so he could roll.  He wasn't interested.
He wanted to be right in my face the whole time!
Gypsy is getting better each time we go to the barn. She doesn't bark at the horses anymore and even let Rusty sniff her a bit. She is nervous in this picture, but at least she isn't barking!

Good updates! I hope you get the transfer!! I am the same way once I'm bored, that was a big reason why I took the assignment in the summer. Will also mean a shorter commute for you?

Thank you for your offer of taking Rusty for a ride, that is so incredibly nice of you! I will take you up on that offer if this crazy yo-yo weather ever settles and once the puppy is a little more self-sufficient.

I say write about the clinic, it'll be good for us to remember what it's like to read without pictures, lol.

And I think purchasing tack based on how good it looks on the horse is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. You know, for a horse person! Have you checked on horseworld.ca? I thought I saw some good used ones on there and it's mostly local so no shipping.

I wouldn't drive an hour one way to pay a clinic deposit either. Nothing fickle about that I can see. It's just plain inconvenient to expect that, I think.

I'm sure Rusty will look quite handsome in black. I've been thinking about stretching to dressage tack as well. So much of my riding is dressage based I might as well get out there and show in that division.

Rusty was probably still thinking about his round bale calling instead of wanting a roll in the snow, don't you think??

Good Girl, Gypsy! (I may have to steal that name for Puppy next week. Guess we'll have to see!)

Rusty looks unhappy with the snow. Poor baby! Does he think he's a hothouse flower like Casey?

You may love riding in a dressage saddle. I've heard I will. I still haven't used mine on Casey yet. (Speaking of which, thanks for the indirect reminder to buy my bestie a bday present!)

Write about the clinic anyways! It'll stretch your writing muscles a bit and that's always good for anyone.

In that pic where you had his blanket off so he could roll Rusty looks SOOO unimpressed!
And I saw your comment on my blog about how much Rusty and Applejack look alike, see I've told you that so many times! lol

Yeah it sounds like those clinic people are either very unprofessional or really don't give a darn. Wouldn't make me too keen on going to a clinic there, although I'd like to see Lyons.

You could do a post on that showmanship clinic and find some pics on the web to post.

Hope your job transfer comes through for you. I was in the same position and was thrilled when the opportunity presented itself back in September of 2010. It's so good to love my job again.

Rusty looks like he's wintering well. Dang girl, you can keep all that snow. I'm so glad to be done with it. I rode in jeans and a tee shirt yesterday.

RuckusButt - at first my commute will only be shorter by 5-10 mins, but that group will be moving in the summer, so that should help alot. At minimum it will get me away from being stuck in traffic on the highway every day! I have been looking on horseworld and equistation for saddles, but not sure I really want to spend the $$ jsut yet...!

Cdn - I forgot how much they looked alike until I saw that picture of Pie! :-)

OS - Gypsy is a good name - feel free to use it if it would work!

Yay, I am all for a shorter commute!

Last night I looked on horse world a little. Yikes, used dressage saddles are still insanely expensive! Do you like wintec? I've seen a few of those around from time to time. I've ridden in one I liked and one I didn't (made my butt sweat like sitting in plastic chairs).

Hey Laura, I sent you an email to your gmail regarding local meat orders and such. Sorry it took me so long!

RB - thanks! I responded this morning - was up super early...

About the saddles - yeah, wintecs are ok if you can get the ones with the fake suede seats...otherwise they are kinda slippy and sweaty...
