Meme, back from road trip

I'm back from my short road trip to visit my family in southern Ontario. It was a short visit, but great to see my family. I don't get home often enough. I didn't take a single picture while I was there since I've been sick with a nasty cough and cold since last week. My Mom is a nurse, so I had her fetching pills and juice for me. :-)

*****************************

I guess the meme is next - my post today is a little disjointed, thanks to the many versions of tylenol I've been taking lately! lol

Cdncowgirl tagged me this time and I'm happy to participate, since it is a fun one.

Six Things You Don't Know About Me
  1. The origins of the nickname "littlekeebler" - since Cdn requested that - here is the kind of boring answer. I'm quite short - about 5' even. Waayyyy back in university we were out with a group of friends and the weather turned cold. I didn't have a coat or a sweater, so we stopped by a friend's place and he lent me a hoodie. This friend was about 6'2"... Another friend laughed about how big the sweater was and they flipped up the hood - and someone shouted - "hey, a keebler elf!". And the name stuck. I always seem to have some sort of nickname - half-pint, littlekeebler, keeb, shorty (real original...).
  2. I am a total shop-a-holic. I love shopping and spending money on expensive things - horse related or not. I was practically raised in a mall - so I'm blaming my family! hhahaha - just kidding (sort of). I try very hard to resist my shopping urges, as I would like to save up money for my retirement!
  3. I looooove to travel. I daydream about all of the trips I could take if only I had more time off work and more money. I don't do budget travel well, I like to be in clean and safe hotels. So far, I've been to England 2x, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Mexico, Aruba, Alaska and many other parts of the US, as well as lots of places in Canada. Places I'd love to go: Sweden (a friend of mine breeds Lippizzaners!), Russia, Italy, Germany, Peru, Brazil, Costa Rica, Vietnam, anywhere in Africa...
  4. I studied five different languages in university. French, Spanish, Russian, Italian and Polish. I don't remember much anymore, except for French. I use French about 40% of the time in my day-to-day work. I love being (almost) bilingual. I think it is good for the brain.
  5. I collect information - books, papers, magazine clippings, how-to's, recipes, etc. on all of my favourite hobbies. I also don't like clutter, so I have binders for all of my different collections. A horse info binder, a workout binder, several binders of recipes, etc. Instead of keeping piles of magazines around, I rip out all of the stuff I want to save and put it in my binder. I also have tonnes of electronic files - pdfs, digital photos, web links. I tend to gather lots of information and then not do anything constructive with it, except organize it!
  6. I'm a "what you see is what you get" sort of person - I'm an introvert, so I'm not a big social butterfly. If you are a friend or acquaintance and I tell you that you look nice, I mean it. If I offer to help you move or something - I mean it. I can often be quite blunt, but honest. I try to be diplomatic if I can - I guess it is the libra in me. The one contradiction to this is that my sense of humour is very sarcastic and this often confuses people. Once they get to know me, I've been told that I can be quite funny.

*Phew* That was harder than I thought! I tag anyone that reads this and wants to participate. Leave a note in the comments to your responses in your blog...

Good job! Thanks for explaining "little keebler", I kinda thought it was something like that but I'm SO curious about things in general. Is that a Gemini trait??? Well in the other zodiac I'm a Tiger and you know what they say about cats and curiousity! ;)
#2-so is this weird, I'm kinda a shopoholic but I don't like to shop? Really, I don't like to aimlessly wander around a mall, but if I'm looking for something in particular watch out! Of course I can wander aimlessly around a tack store, no problem.
#3-I would love to travel, I haven't been out of Canada as of yet though. :( I'm planning a riding vacation to Greece next year though, VERY excited about that.
#4-WOW. I studied French in high school and remember a teeent tiny bit. Right now I'm trying to learn another language, so I know its difficult... I mix all three together sometimes, just think of what kind of sentences I could come up with 5 languages! lol
#5-I collect info too... mine doesn't usually even get organized!
#6-ditto. I used to be very shy, people thought I was a snob. Then I got to the point of 'screw you all' this is who I am, take it or leave it.

Hope your cold goes away, colds always suck but just seem so wrong in the summer.

I was wondering about the littlekeebler thing - now I know!

Again I am just amazed at how much in common I have with all my blogging buddies.

You gave me some ideas to write about - and maybe hopefully tomorrow I can post...

I am with Stephanie, I cant believe how much I have in common with all of you! Other than that I HATE shopping! lol While I a fairly average 5'5", my mother is 5'9" and my sister is close to 5'11"...so I am by far the shortest in the family and get teased for it. I am with Cnd. on the language thing. #5- Good for you for organizing it all! I am a collector too which means I have crap everywhere lol. #6- I could have written that about myself. Bang on the same!

It is amazing how much most of us have in common in the blogging circles that we keep.

I love to travel too-have only been to Mexico-just across the border...to shop-LOL. And to Regina, in Canada. One of the colleges I attended went to the Livestock Expo they have up there-it was a total blast.

I like to shop-but only purchase occasionally. It is such a mood thing for me-when I am in the mood to shop-I shop, when I am not-I go home.

Collections of stuff-OMG! I still have stuff I saved for informational purposes from 25 years ago. I am pretty good about organizing my horse info-not so much with the other stuff. My recipe books look like rag bags, because I cut out recipes, stuff them in books for safe keeping and then never cook them. My worst habit is packing everything up, moving and then going through it when I unpack. I am always amazed at the amount of stuff I could have thrown away BEFORE the move-LOL.

Boy-I am going to have a hard time coming up with my own 6 meme's when I keep going to everyone's sites and blabbing about the similarities I have with other people-:o

browneyed cowgirls: you've been to Regina? I'm so sorry. lol
Had to do that, Saskatoon & Regina have this weird rivalry. :)
I'm in Regina next week. When you went for that livestock expo was it by any chance called "Agribition"?

what's a Meme? :-/??
I too was wondering about the name! It's cute...I might call you LK though:-) I try to abbrviate everything cuz I get lazy.

2-I don't really like shopping I get impatient with people and long lines. but I don't hate shopping nearly as much as I used to. now when it comes to grocery store shopping I never push a cart:-xI hate them, IDK why, but I always get the damn lil basket and jam too much in it- I've dropped things out of it before bc I filled it too much...Matt is the cart pusher in our family thank gawd...
3- i'm a total homebody- I love vacations where I stay at home.
4- I took 3 years of spanish 1, I can sing LaBamba andn recite part of the Nat. Anthem in Espanol, that's about it though.
5-LESS is more :-) seriously, I hate learning soemthing new or having to read about too much info or detail.
6-same here, people thought I was a snob too, but truth is I was so uncomfortable around people that I just completely avoided them.

*****How is Rusy and how are you doing?

Thanks for explaining 'Little Keebler'. Totally makes sense!

I'm at the opposite spectrum. Amazonian Tall! That was my nickname "Amazonian". yuk!

I'm an introvert, too. If I get around too many people I tend to get overwhelmed and need to find some quiet space to decompress.

I'm impressed that you know and are fluent in so many languages.
I know several, but only phrases and words.
I'd love to actually be proficient in at least one other language besides English. haha!

Twinville - I'm really only close to being fluent in French. The other languages are just cobwebs in my brain. I can read pretty well in Spanish and Italian, since they are so similar to French...
