His eyes are still iffy - some days are better than others. You can see in the picture above that his left ey is quite small - it was worse than the right eye on Saturday. The vet is due out Thursday or so to re-check. We're hoping we can start giving some steroids to help with the inflammation. Bute isn't really doing much - he is getting 3g a day (split in two feedings) and it helps a bit, but not enough.
I went out this afternoon to check on him again and I let him loose in the indoor arena this time, so he had better traction. He bucked and snorted and pretended like he hadn't been in the arena before. He aslo rolled in the nice dirt - and guess who didn't have her camera!! After about 5 minutes of the bucking and cantering around, he came back to me with the "what now???" face.
I'm glad I made it out to the barn tonight, as our weather is not playing nice yet again. Winds up to 50 km/h and windchills of below -40C!!!! The high for tomorrow with the wind is only expected to get to -30C tops! Argh. I was lamenting the fact that my British ancestors could have stayed on the boat for a bit longer and ended up in the Carolinas, Florida or even the Caribbean. I also think they should have went with a better travel agent!!!

Those are really fun, beautiful pictures of you and Rusty! There is nothing more pretty than an Appy coat pattern in the snow!
Wowsers, it's COLD there! Yikes! Good thing Appy's tend to get that extra long warm hair, LOL!
Curious to hear how the steroids work on the eyes, keep us posted!
Great pics and sounds like a fun day! I think moving him was a good idea, he looks happy and definately in better weight.
Keep us updated on that eye!
Looks like you and Rusty had a nice time playing in the snow. I'm hoping the vet can do something more for his eye.
I'm think my ancestors had a bad travel agent too, I would rather be in a warmer climate this winter too!
Hmmm...the bute's not working huh? yeah maybe the steroids will do the trick.
I heard on the news about the weather over there. Was like the stuff were having last month.
Keep an eye on your pipe!
LOL- at your travel agent comments. Too true! Hope that everything goes well with the vet and that the steroids do their work quickly and effectively.
Ditto, on this cold, stay warm up there!
Love the snow pics, looks like fun!
He looks so good and happy, I like your new header. I'm sorry his eye is still bad, I hope you get some answers soon and that it heals for good.
We are freezing here in 12 degree weather :-p we're whimps, I know.
Fantabulous photos of you and Rusty! He looked so happy that you were out there to play with him and give him attention.
The bright blue sky against the white snow is just brilliant!
I'm glad you snuck in that time with your handsome boy before the weather turned bad again :)
I'll be sending get well energy to Rusty that his eye feels better soon. Poor handsome boy...

I'm hoping the steroids work Laura. Rusty is such a sweet and wonderful horse for you. Try not to be too despondant over things...it's just the winter blues. Considering your weather...you are entitled.;)
Keep us informed. Thinking of you and give the big guy a pat!!
Hey Laura! Great pix there of Rusty in the snow. Wow does he look fantastic. Don't let the eyes get you too down-- you and Rusty have a great relationship, and I bet that he would trust you to guide him should things progress to worse.
Give that handsome hiney a rub from me!!!!
