We finally had our appointment with the surgeon and based on the amount of stability in the knee, he felt that the ACL is ok. He suspected that there might be some very minor damage, but the knee joint is very stable and Max isn't in any pain, so we are good for now.
Max is restricted to handwalking for a couple more weeks, then he should be able to play off-leash again. The vet has just advised against having him jump too much. Max loves jumping on top of, over and after things - fences, frisbees, benches, snowbanks, horse jumps, etc... but we will have to be diligent and not let him do those things any more.
Now I just have to relax and stop worrying about him...!

Very good news! I'll bet he's back to normal in no time.
That is great news! An ACL tear is repairable in dogs (my sister's dog had that surgery) but the rehab and recovery is pretty long and regimented. Max is so beautiful and athletic!
YAY MAX!!!!
That has to be a mega load lifted from your shoulders Laura! What GREAT news!!!
Please give handsome Max some TLC from us!
Good News!
That's awesome news! Good for Max and good for you guys.:)
We never stop worrying, though, do we?
That's what makes you a good canine mom.
Yay for Max!

YAY!!!!!
Love that pic of the little monster :)
So is jumping permanently ruled out or something he may be able to do in the future?
Bear (the rottie where I board) had damaged her ACL and was on restricted movement for months. Now she can run, jump, chase and play as if she never had a problem. They do have to be careful to keep her weight down though or she puts too much strain on her ACL
That is the most excellent news!! I am so glad to hear that Max doesn't have a torn ACL!!
Glad to hear his injury is not as serious as you thought. Good luck keeping him quiet!
Very Good news. Enjoyed my visit to your blog!

Yay for Max! Maybe he just strained it, had a bit of swelling and strained it a bit more? Kinda like what I did with my knee...
Have you talked with the vet about a joint supplement to keep him going and active? It's going to be hard to keep him quieter forever... (No jumping? Hah! That's like asking it to not rain here, ever again! No way my dogs would cooperate! LOL)
