What a weekend...

2010 really isn't off to the best start with me... Life sure likes to throw in challenges to keep you on your toes!

On Friday afternoon, we found out that the hubby is losing his job at the end of January. We were sort of expecting this and he has a few leads on new jobs, but we're not sure how it will all go. Fun!

And - remember that emergency vet fund I was so proud of in my New Year's post? Well, I'm extremely glad I have it, because we'll be needing it.

Rusty is fine - hopefully he stays that way.

It is my dog Max. We are pretty sure that he has ruptured his ACL. We saw our vet on Saturday morning and she was very sure that was the problem. She was kind and saved us the money for sedation and x-rays to confirm, since the orthapedic surgeon will be re-doing all of the tests when we see him early next week.

What a bummer! Max seems to be in good spirits and acting like his normal wiggly self, he just can't put much weight on his back leg, which confuses him sometimes.

On a good note, I saw Avatar this weekend and it was really good! The graphics/animation/3D were spectacular and well worth the money to go out and see it!

I also rode ol' Rusty for the first time in a month. He was a bit peppy, which for Rusty is probably the energy level of a normal horse! lol He even threw in a few little crow hops and head tosses just to keep me guessing. As much as it is annoying, I have to laugh at him when he does this, because he doesn't put a lot of effort into his bucks - I'm sure he could, but he just does enough to try and get out of working. What a guy.

I've also done a few clicker training sessions (just for something different to do) with him and he is really getting it. I keep meaning to do a post about it, but I need to get some pictures or video first, because it is pretty funny.

Sorry for the bummer post, but that is what is happening in my little corner of the world today!

Awww-sorry about your dog. I've heard those ACL surgeries are extremely expensive.

And about hubby's job. Hopefully something will pan out quickly for him.

Phew- this can be fixed. Rusty was spunky, Max will be OK, and remember- when one door closes, another opens ;)

Will be sure to keep you guys in our prayers that the door opens QUICK for you to something Hubby loves to do!

Rub Max's belly from me, and smooch Rusty too!

So sorry about the job loss - that has to be worrisome. And sorry about the hurt dog - our neighbor's dog did that and has since made a full recovery.

Will send good thoughts your way.

So sorry. You didn't need any of this. My husband just found out that his job is at risk if this latest health reform goes into effect. President Obama must know that if the States are forced to pay for health care, then State workers are going to lose their jobs and State taxes are going to rise. We don't have State income tax now, but we'll definitely get it if the Federal government forces extra costs onto the State level.

Sorry to hear about your pup! my aunt had a pomeranian with the very same problem but after surgery he was good as a new. Luckily, the prognosis for those sort of problems is pretty good.

Hang in there!

Sorry to hear about your dog. My dog speckles tore his ACL joint and since he was an older dog we opted not to do the surgery. He actually regained full use of the leg. Good luck with your pup the key is to not let him injure the other joints as he is much more likely to do now!

Ooooh! Poor Max! Been there done that. You know what I've gone through after severing my Anterior Cruciate Ligament. It's so painful! And the surgery was over $12,000. But that's for humans. Dogs seem to heal much faster. Maybe they've got more pain tolerance. Or having 3 extra legs to help out in walking makes it easier?

I'm sorry about hubby's job. My hubby quit his job on Friday. That trucking sucks!
Of course, now he has no job and has to go out and hit the streets looking for one.
I'm a Stay at home Mom, so this will be a stressful time for us for sure.

But like others have said, When one door closes another one opens. It could be a chance at new and better opportunities right?

I'm glad Rusty is ok and is still feeling frisky. Baby Doll always gave me a couple crowhops when we first headed out. Someone told me that maybe she needed chiro work, but once she got those little crowhops out at the beginning of a ride, she didn't do anymore. Like you, I think they were here way of stamping her feet saying,"I don't want to work". lol!

I am so sorry to hear about your hubby losing his job!!! I hope one of the job leads works out!

I am also sorry to hear about Max's ACL!! I have been through that twice with 2 different dogs, and with myself. My GSD was around 7 yrs old, when she blew out her knee and we did the surgery. She lived happily for another 4 years before she had to be put down for other health reasons. My Aussie/Sharpei tore his ACL at 11 1/2 yrs old, and it was so bad that we ended having him put down. With him being that old and to have to go through a surgery and rehabilitation, we didn't want to put him through all that.

Will be thinking of you guys!!

Very sorry about the difficult news. Good luck to your husband on his job hunt and I hope Max will be well soon. You are very wise to have an emergency vet fund.

Sorry to hear about hubby's job and poor Max. Hopefully things turn around and a new (maybe better!) job is found. And jingles for Max, the poor kid.

Glad to hear Rusty was feeling G-O-O-D!

Sorry to hear about the job situation. Hope he finds one soon.
My dog Murphy just did the same thing to his leg, but the vet treated it with anti-inflammatory medication for a month with hand walking and no running etc. He's putting weight on it now and it seems to be healing itself. Of course, he could blow it out and then he will need the surgery. Fingers crossed he won't.

Glad to hear you at least got in a ride.
