The vet also confirmed that my decision to move Rusty was a good one. I told her about the new, vet-owned barn and the turnout situation there and she thought it sounded great. I gave my current barn owner a heads-up about all of this, so I just have to give her official notice this week. Even though my new barn owner is a vet, she isn't licensed in a practice anymore, she works for the government. She wouldn't be able to officially diagnose and treat my horse, so luckily my current vet travels in the area of the new barn.
Glad to have the major decision of "move? don't move?" over with! I do not like making decisions - I always second-guess myself. Although, I just learned that a new gelding has moved into the barn and is in Rusty's paddock. That paddock doesn't have enough room for 7 horses. There will also be a weaning colt in there next month to make 8. I think all of the factors are pointing towards me making the right decision to move! The new barn owner has offered to trailer Rusty over to her place - so we will work out a date in mid-October to do that.

Poor Rusty threw one of his new shoes on Sunday. Rotten horse. :-) Three other horses at the barn also need farrier work, so it should be easier to get the farrier out soon. I'm hoping this is the last set of shoes for the year, as I plan to keep him barefoot over the winter.
The weather has been fabulous here - everything is still green and very alive. I'm hoping to ride alot before I move Rusty so we are both in shape to start working in our lessons! Fall is definitely in town though, as the air is cool and brisk. I love fall - it is nice to have cool weather - although it warns of winter's imminent arrival. Winter here usually is not very nice - lots of snow, ice and bitter cold winds. Good thing I have an indoor arena to ride in this year!! (I'm a little excited about changing barns - can you tell!)
Fall was myfavourite time of year when I was young - I liked going back to school, my birthday is during the fall and fall was the best time for riding where I lived because all of the crops were harvested. I had several hundred acres of my neighbour's property to ride on, once the crops were down. Winters where I grew up weren't that bad either - we didn't get a lot of snow most winters.Spring was nice, but muddy and the crops were going in so I coudn't ride in the fields. Summer was hot, buggy and hard to ride in 7ft high corn. I did though - did anyone else do that? Ride down the rows of tall corn? The corn cobs would hit you in the shins and your legs would go numb, the horse would go faster and faster - egged on by the whooshing sound of the corn stalks and our giddy laughter! Oh, man that was fun. *sigh* Some days I miss my carefree childhood so much.
*Note - picture is of me riding my cousin's arab gelding a few years ago. You can just make out an empty field in the background.
** Question - why is blogger such a pain with pictures and adding extra spaces everywhere?

We used to ride down the rows of tall corn, its fun! Buttercup always snatches bites of the leaves and once when we got to the end of the field she managed to grab a whole stalk! We were trotting down the trail with it hanging out of her mouth, me trying to grab it away from her and her playing keep away. We were quite a sight!
Good times though.
I'm so jealous of your new boarding arrangement! :) I can trailer to one of 2 teeny (TEENY) arenas that are fairly close but not very often.
Hmmm, I'm confused, I thought you already moved! lol, but I'm usually drinkinng wine while I finally get to blog readings...o:-)
The move sounds like the right choice in so many ways- I HATE making decisions too, let me guess, you're a libra? My b-day is in the Fall too!
OMG! I've been complaining to blogger about that extra space thing for months. Either they don't care to fix it or they can't fix it. Love the picture, even though it was a pain to post.
Oh Laura!
Sounds like things are looking up for you and Rusty and that you have alot of great riding to look forward to, to make up for so much time lost this past year.
Woot! Woot!
I'm glad that Rusty is doing so great and that the move to the new and better barn is now so close.
Keep us updated, k?

Cdn - you won't be as jealous when you see how much I pay every month! lol. My bank account won't like the increase!
squirrelgurl - that's funny that Buttercup grabbed a whole stalk of corn - I think my horse just grabbed leaves!
Denise - you got it -I'm a libra! I couldn't decide my way out of a paper bag! lol
No - we haven't moved yet. October 17th is the big day, if all goes to plan.
NM - sounds like blogger needs to update its HTML editor - it is pretty primitive. I do HTML all day at work and I have a hard time with blogger...
Lisa - thanks!!
That is excellent news about Rusty being back to good health!!! YAY!!! Cant wait to hear how the new barn is, and your adventures there. Hope you can get in loads of riding time this fall too, before snow flies. I know how much you have missed that!!
I have found that when you use different browsers - blogger is less of a pain and is easier to work with. I use FireFox. It seems to work rather well - give it a try if you haven't already.
Yes, having access to an indoor arena is a very cool thing. But then you have to get down to the nitty gritty when it comes to cooling them off. Invest in a good wool blanket - one from a thrift store works as long as its real wool, or you can buy one. Nothing I have found dries a horse off faster than wool.
Thanks Mrs. Mom!
Steph - thanks for both tips. I am such an ingrained IE user that I forget about firefox.
I need to look into blankets and coolers for Rusty, so thanks for the tip on wool...
Here's a tip I found for cooling out horses with winter coats:
Give them a good rub down with a towel, fluff up the hair so it can "breathe" and put a cooler on.
Seems to help them dry out quicker.
Ohhh, I am very excited for you and Rusty.
I forgot to tell you.....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LAURA!!!
I hope it was spent in a special way and that you had a wonderful birthday :)

Happy Birthday! Hope it was a great one!
To your last question...WTF!!!!! It drives me flippin crazy!! What is with that picture/space thing?
