Mr. Appy's first day at his new home

So, my new horse arrived yesterday morning. I dragged my hubby out with me. We were there at least 45 minutes before the horse was due to arrive - I wouldn't want to miss him!

We helped out around the barn while waiting - cleaning a couple of stalls, etc. I felt like I was 12 again, waiting for my first horse to be delivered!

They finally arrived - he backed out of the trailer like it was no big deal. He checked the place out with calm, experienced eyes. There was no whinnying, no snorting, no prancing. Just a bit of curiosity. He had been bathed that morning and his legs were carefully wrapped with bandages and clean white polos. Apparently he loads in the trailer no problem.

The previous owners went to alot of trouble to send him all nice and tidy. It was great to see. They also gave me a huge bag of stuff - a really nice black dressage bridle, leather halter, 2 sets of polos, 2 winter blankets (!) and his flymask. Buying this horse was very pleasant - the sellers were honest and friendly and the horse was exactly what they said he was.

I rode him last night as well - 20 minutes in the ring and about 20 minutes out in the hayfields. We walked and trotted (it was really hot) and he was perfect. No jigging, bolting, spooking or other silliness - not to say that he might not do some of that in the future, he is an animal after all.

I have to say that I am looking forward to riding alot this year and actually having FUN!

Here are a few pics - sorry to make you read through all of the blabbing first! ;-p

Is it safe to come out???

Oh, you have treats - well, why didn't you say so?!

Who is that guy? Does he have treats?

Well that is a nice looking horse. I hope he works for you. There is just no sense having a miserable time when all you want to do is have a little fun and enjoy your horse.
Nice to know there are still good people to deal with huh? Sometimes you have to wonder if there are any honest horse people left.

Yay! So glad to hear things started off well. The sellers sound like decent people.
His colouring reminds me of Rainclouds :)

Looking forward to more pics and more babbling!

Congrats on your new and very handsome horse! Many happy trails to you both.

Like BECG, sure am happy to hear that you had some really good sellers to work with in buying him!

That is generous of his owners to give you those things and deliver him all clean and nice. That shows they really cared for him. I am sure he is a great horse.
What is his Appy breeding? His face looks familiar.
Can't wait to hear more about your journey together!

Thanks for the great comments guys (gals!)

It is nice to know there are good people out there - I try to be a good person and it's nice to see others are too!

cdn - he does look a bit like Raincloud - just minus the dark legs!

Ponygirl - sadly I don't know his breeding - he is registered, but the people 3 owners back were going through a divorce and one of the couple withheld his papers. Previous owners have tried to contact these people with no luck.

So have you made a decision about his name? I understand your reason for wanting to change it. What about something close to his name, like Jester?

What a handsome...and large fella!!

It's wonderful how the owners wanted you and the horse to both have a good first day together. He comes from a good place, which is an awesome thing for you, too.

I enjoyed your 'babbling', especially how you shared your excitement waiting for the arrival of your new horse. Congrats!!

I can't wait to hear future news about the two of you together.

Handsome boy he is! It is refreshing to find honest people in the world of selling/buying horses. There are so many that don't give a rat's behind about the animals.

Congrats! Happy trails to you!
